After listening to Ring of fire on repeat for an entire day I started to think of what I thought the song meant and tried to create my own little story of what I believed the song was about. 
I also looked on google to see how other people responded to the song and asked my friends who now never want to hear the song ever again. 
I wanted my book to be about an affair and base the ring of fire on a wedding ring. 

I started to put down my ideas on paper and picked out words I could create pages from. lyrics such as 'wild desire', 'I fell down' and 'the taste of love is sweet' really stood out for me at first and I got a lot of ideas from them. 

I really enjoy photography so I wanted to take my own photos on my phone and edit them for the book so I took some self portraits and got my two housemates to have a quick photoshoot. 

I wanted to make it look like someone was falling down the page so me and my friend took a chair into the garden and nearly broke our backs trying to make it look like we were falling. This included me having to take a video of myself and having to screenshot the good shots. 
I also took a lot of photos of my friend hand which was covered in her favourite rings as I felt that could symbolise all the affairs the singer in the song has. I really loved her ring which has peace engraved in it as I felt that was a contrast to how the person who was having an affair felt. 

I changed the amount of pages in the book multiple times. At first I was just going to stick with 8 pages but I wanted more pages to include all the lyrics so it didn't seem squashed. The second time I decided to change the amount of pages was because I really liked the white pages next to the black pages when I was viewing it on indesign and it made me think the pages which were all just black were too much and didn't look as good as the ones with white. Therefore I decided to add more pages and move my current pages about. I also ended up changing the background colours for a lot of them as I felt it looked a lot better. 

I sent my friends a lot of photos of my work to ask them their opinions on font and colour. If I wasn't sending them photos I was following them around the house. I decided to use a font which looked broken as I felt that was a good way to symbolise that the singers marriage was broken due to the affair. I also ended up using a wall as the background for a lot of the pages as I wanted the wall to symbolise that the singer is hiding the affairs from their marriage partner and that the affairs have created this big wall between the married couple. 

This is the final design. I had a lot of fun designing this and I learnt a lot of new skills on illustrator, photoshop and indesign.

Vaughan Oliver was a British Graphic Designer who is very well known from his covers for the Pixies.

Peter Grundy is an illustrator and a designer who has specialised in information design for over 30 years. 

Below is my attempt at recreating some of Peter grundy's work 

El Lissitzky is a Russian, artist, designer, photographer and architect.

For this task we had to look and work in the style of the artist above and then create three book covers in their style.
The three books we had to choose from were:

• Animal Farm 
• Bridget Jones's Diary
• Bleak house

We had to choose an artists style for each of these. I decided to choose Peter Grundy's style for Bridget Jones as it is a bright comedy and I thought it would fit with the bright colours Peter Grundy uses. I then chose El Lissitzky for Animal farm as the story is linked to the Russian revolution which I felt went really well with El Lissitzky's work since he created a lot of propaganda posters such as, 'Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge'. Finally, I decided to choose Vaughan Oliver for bleak house this was because I had a lot of ideas on how I could use his style to create an interesting book cover for the story.

When designing the cover for Bridget Jones's Diary I played a lot with the font and colour. Peter Grundy has quite a bright colourful colour pallet which is very eye catching so I wanted my book to also be eye catching. I used simple shapes and an easy to read font as I felt that matched Grudy's style a lot.

For Vaughan Oliver when looking at his work I realised he used photography a lot. I really liked how he includes himself into his art and has fun with it by strapping eels onto his body. Since I was working in his style I felt I should include myself into my cover just like he does. So I decided to take some self portraits on my phone to use on the cover. I decided to take photos of myself wearing a pearl necklace as the family in Bleak house were wealthy. 

Primary colours (paint): RED, YELLOW, BLUE
Primary colours (ink): YELLOW, MAGENTA, CYAN, KEY (BLACK)

After mixing lots of colours these were the colours I was mostly drawn to. 

For this exercise we had to use letterforms to create 6 digital typographic designs each in portrait format. For each problem we had to choose a typeface.

• Feminine

For this task we had to make six abstract compositions on a white a2 sheet of paper. The six compositions needed to communicate one of six problems.
