Brief

Translate a script into typography - using the typeface I made in the other project and other existing typefaces: Baskerville and Helvetica
Assign an appropriate typeface to each character in the script
you can add limited drawing elements
You may use one more colour other than black and white
should be presented in ISSUU book format

Inspiration

Grid layout research

Before starting the project I want to get a better idea at layout and composition. I have started to look at some grids and the importance of them in graphic design to help give me a better idea on how I will position my typography in my final design.

Keywords

Format - The area the design will be laid out
Margin - The empty spaces between the format
Flowlines - Horizontal lines that separate the different sections
Modules - The building blocks of grids created between the flowlines and vertical lines.
Regions - Groups of modules create regions. (A vertical region can hold a block of text, a horizontal region can hold a video.)
Columns - Columns are vertical regions that fit fully from the top to the bottom margin.
Rows - Rows are horizontal regions that fit fully from the left to right margin.
Gutters - The spaces between rows and columns (These should always be equal between columns or rows, in order to maintain a visual balance.)
Markers - Markers are areas inside the running header or footer that mark the exact place where repeating information is placed from page to page.

Harry Potter

I decided to look at some Harry Potter art to give me Inspiration for the final thing and made a Pinterest board including some ideas.

Above I have included some links which tell you about each characters personality. This will be useful when i'm deciding on which font goes with each character.

Planning

Grids

I have started by getting my grids and pages set up on indesign. For now I have 7 columns and have set my gutters to size 4.5mm however, this may change later on.

Typefaces

I decided to have a look at some of the typefaces to see which could go with the characters personality. However I want to look at more typefaces before choosing my final one for each character.

Dumbledore

For Dumbledore I decided to go with Times New Roman because it has an authoritative look and I felt like this went well with Dumbledores character.

Professor Mcgonagall

For Professor Mcgonagall I decided to go with cattitude since I look at Mcgonagall as a cat person so I feel like this typeface really goes with her personality.

Hagrid

For Hagrid I decided to go for the typeface Raw edge as I really loved how it looked and I felt like this typeface went well with how I see Hagrid.

Pages

I decided to do some basic visuals so I could have an idea of what lines would go on each page to work out how many pages I need. I plan on doing more visuals later on.

Visuals

Before making some visuals I decided to play about to see what type of stuff I can do with the typography.

Below are some visuals I made for each page.

Testing

I wanted to test out some ideas before choosing my final pages. I decided to play with different techniques such as repetition, opacity and positioning. Some of the final results have ended up interesting however, I have found a few look like there's too much going on.
